Salzburg - 3 May 2010 - Augustiner Braustubl

Ausgustiner - good beer and lovely beer halls. It was just right across our apartment at Mullner Hauptsrasse. We didn't know what to expect when we got to the door. It looked like an ordinary building until we opened the door - it had a big staircase leading down to a number of beer halls. The grand staircase was opulent with painted ceiling, looked just like a museum.
All you have to do is pick up the mugs (2 sizes), pay the cashier, wash your mugs at the foot operated fountain, pass the mugs and receipt to the man at the keg and he will fill them up with beer. Then you can proceed to any of the halls depending on which crowd you want to join. You can also buy food or bring your own food. In one of the halls, a band was performing, we took a peek at the doorway and was pulled in by the friendly crowd. It was fun dancing and mingling with the crowds - nobody minded that we were Asians. Austrians definitely are classy and friendly.
We went there again for a second time during our stay in Salzburg.
