Hallstatt - 7 May 2010

7 May 2010 - We arrived in Hallstatt taking the afternoon train from Salzburg with a change at Attnang-Puchheim. The trip was about 2.5 hr, the view from the train was awesome with the alps and the lakes of the salzkammergut. The train deposited us at a little unmanned station across the lake. As soon as we reached the lakeside and saw the clear water, we felt as though as we were in paradise.
We took the boat Stefanie to reach the Markt dock. The timing of the train and the boat is synchronized so there is no need for long wait. From the dock, we parted ways with Evelyn & husband because we had booked apartments at opposite sides of town. The four of us stopped by at a supermarket in town, walked across the market square, browsed through souvenir shops and finally reached our apartment - Kerschbaumer which can be booked at Hallstatt website.
Our apartment has balcony with lake view. Having taken in the view and refreshed ourselves, we went out quickly to the lake for some photos.
Most tourists come here on daytrip, stopover between Salzburg and Vienna. By the early evening, after the daytrippers had all gone, we almost had the whole town to ourselves.
The six of us later had dinner at a local restaurant. We tried the char fish from the lakes. It had lots of fine bones and tasted quite plain. After dinner, we strolled back to our apartment for chit-chat.
The early morning view at about 7 am from the balcony was just heavenly. The sun rising in the horizon through the mountain mist dotted by soaring birds...cool spring air...unforgettable!

The view from the apartment balcony was simply beautiful and serene - awesome.
